Our mahi is linked in closely with our Pakirehua (Inquiry Learning). This makes our learning more real life based for the tamariki.
Our schoolwide theme for the term is "How the World Works". In particular, we are inquiring into the interaction between the natural world and human societies. This mahi comes from the Tikanga ā Iwi Learning area in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
Our Literacy focus is based on the idea of "Reading to Learn". We read our texts, develop questions around the ideas and then research to find out more.
We use the information we have researched to CREATE in writing. We are learning to write with more detail, using paragraphs and technical vocabulary in our writing. Once we have edited our writing we then CREATE using ICT and elearning.
Our current focus is on Tauranga Harbour. We are inquiring into why it is a "special place for all"
We spent a day with the Tauranga City Council cleaning up the Matapihi Penninsula. It was incredible how much rubbish we picked up.
We created photostories after the event to show the contrast between the natural beauty of our harbour and the potential impact of human societies if we do not look after it.
